Hunky Dory at 65/Diversions...Reading and Crosswords

First in a series
all about me at 65

Diversions
Reading
Crossword Puzzles
Armchair Travel

This would be a dream spot to read. I love anything tropical and these things evoke that feeling...leafy wallpaper, rattan furniture, sunshine.

And when I read I like a dictionary close by. Art, another love.

Atlas
Dictionary
Art book
Bird book

Shelves loaded with cool things.

Horse sculpture made by my son.

My husband's high school senior photo.

Photo of my son, stepdaughter, and husband.

A paint palette my Mom had made since my son is an artist.

Crossword puzzle and COFFEE, though I like mine with milk in it.

Cushy pillows on the floor.

Gotta have these.

And I strive to be nice just like the pillow says.

Long time no blog! or...Surfing Christmas

Since we went on a vacation for Christmas we did not decorate the house. So, I had to make a Christmasy scene to make up for it.

Merry Christmas!

And here is the surfer's living room, an homage to the past, nature,
wood, and surfing...all decked out for Christmas

There are gifts for friends.

Always a good host, surfer boy has treats for
his guests to enjoy while watching his brand new retro TV.

Looks like a retro show, too.

These old things take a little tweeking.

His girlfriend shows the guests his surfboard.

His surfing trophy takes center stage.

He was featured in a magazine as well.

His love of nature, wood, and the Beatles are in evidence as well.

Books and treasures.

His favorite surfing poster.

More stuff.

The coolest telephone ever.

And, he's reading about Frank Zappa...he's his own guy.

My nephew Nicholas gave me the TV for Christmas and it and our trip to Key West inspired this scene. Thanks Nicholas.

A Belated Merry "Little" Christmas and Happy New Year

T'was the night before Christmas
and all through the house
not a creature was
stirring not even

the pianist

or the artist

or the seamstress

the tree was all decorated
with presents beneath

In hopes that good Santa
some more might bequeath

Peace to you this new year and always

The cute gentleman flashing the peace sign is my husband.  The piano, sewing machine, and easel are presents from my nephew Nicholas.  He had used the items in a diorama about "The Glass Castle" by Jeannette Walls for school and bequeathed them to me.  Thanks!  The wonderful Christmas tree is from my mini friend Monika.  Lovely!

A Little Aping Around

Sometimes you just can't control your ape. And how is he hanging from his head? C'mon down sweetie.

I could not resist a silly post with the gorilla that came with my new purse. Kipling has a gorilla hanging on each purse...goofy. I took it off but thought it would be funny in a scene.

Our Little Library with BOOKS

The sunny library.  With plants galore and an influx of new books.

A great place for brother to help sis work on homework...art no less. Mom is cleaning out the fireplace as it is the first day of spring tomorrow and she is hopeful that she won't need the warmth.

Sis is studying Klimt.

Dad is watering plants.

BOOKS!

Someone put up a new poster.

And after a busy day it is always nice to sit down together and do a little reading.

Oh, did I love making books!! I found book jacket images on the web, mini-sized them and glued them around foam core board. I couldn't stop! Here are just a few examples of some of my favorite ones. I wish my printer printed a little more clearly. Maybe running out of ink. Now I am going to look for more of certain kinds of books...specific ones I love.
